Just a few notes about Sprinter 4×4

I’m sitting in airport waiting for my return home flight and thought I would pass along some info about the new 4×4 Sprinter van.

First thing, the first orders will go to the factory this November for January production. That should have the first units showing up in late March for Crew and Passenger models, and late April for Cargo vans.

It will available in all 2500 model Cargo, Crew and Passenger models, and 3500 Cargo vans only with the 11,030 GVWR option. Will not be available in Cab Chassis in the beginning.

Will be available in 144″ and 170″ wheelbase and Extended body’s. V6 only with the 5 speed automatic transmission.

4″ in the front and 3″ in the rear increased height to give it a better approach angle.

The system is a Military grade system that is 2 wheel drive with a push button switch to activate the 4×4 system. You must be going under 6 mph to activate.

The power is split 65% rear and 35% front at that point. Our current ESP system will direct power to the wheel with traction automatically.

The other option is to have a High and Low range option that will cut the speed by 42% to be used in off road situations. Again this is activated by a dash button.

No price yet, but their target was to be under $8000 for the option, not sure if that is for the high range only, but expect a difference of a couple thousand to get high/low range feature.

There may be more info that I can pass along, but they are calling my flight. More to come this weekend.

    • I wish I had more info I could tell everyone about the new 4 wheel drive Sprinter vans, but they just have not given us any other info. All I do know is the first few months will be small numbers of units built, so not sure if everyone who wants one will be able to get one of the first ones or not.

I will be announcing sometime in September my order policy so stay tuned.
